Find a TED Talks and respond on your blog.

The final chapter unfolds in today’s post. Next week is the last week for this semester and it’s been fun. The final post is to search a TED Talks video and talk about why we enjoyed it. I’ve selected Avi Reichental:
What’s next in 3D printing.

Avi has made 3D printing his life. The technology of today has allowed Avi to not only bring his family tradition of making shoes possible, but to innovate and make anything possible. I find it fascinating the possible uses a 3D printer brings to the table. From entertainment to medical to outer space. Something so simple as a brace, or a shoe, to the genius of an airplane engine can be made possible. I really look forward to seeing where 3D printing takes us in the future. The digital age has certainly been amazing in such a short period of time. Imagine the changes looking back from now to 20 years ago, and then imagine the future 20 years from now. It will be really interesting to see where things go. Anyways, it’s been a good year. See you around!

Back again, blog again, tell a friend, tell a friend, tell a friend….

Freewriting on your blog. Think about an issue that you care about that a lot of people disagree with. Consider something to you that is worth arguing about!

I’ve created a monster!…

A good topic i care about would be music, and what about?… freedom of speech.

I feel that a lot of the time artists get a lot of heat based on the songs lyrics. I think it’s crazy for people to put in their .02$ and try to change the music industry because they don’t agree with what’s said in the song. I say if you don’t like it, don’t listen to it. Don’t want your kids to hear it?… Don’t buy them the CD. There’s a lot of options for each particular taste. Thousands of artists each unique in their own way. Where would music be in history had songs been hushed by those who didn’t like it? Songs are censored for radio already, what more could they want? I say, let it be. What about you?

Assignment: Blog Post

Post on your blog and talk about the differences between writing an Exploration essay and about a personal experience. Which did you enjoy more? Do you find one more important than the other? Feel free to discuss any aspect you’d like.

As a class we began off with writing a personal experience. I found it harder to bring back memories to write about. The experience essay felt more personal and drew a connection between the writer and audience. The exploration essay was not as difficult to write out. While the exploration essay shared similar aspects with the personal experience, the exploration allowed more play with the writer on what to write about. If I were to write about one or the other once again, I would choose explore writing. I would choose explore over experience because in explore writing I found, as a writer, it was more fun. I say explore writing was more fun because between the two papers and the subjects I had, explore writing wasn’t limited to something you’ve had to encounter. Instead, explore writing allowed for you(the writer) to write about something that interest you. That interest could not only be something you have done already or are doing now, but also something you know nothing about that you want to learn more of. I suppose explore writing is more of a 2 in 1 kind of offer.

Freewriting to a song

As the music starts I’d like to mention I love the work Hans Zimmer puts out. I’ve had this video saved to my youtube channel for years. Each song really has a lot of power and emotion to it. It’s also really funny to listen to how the song sounds and you can guess what era it’s from. Evening now I hear the Top Gun sound track and you know it’s older. A lot of these movies I’ve never heard of, but the music makes me want to check into them. 1/3 third through already, time flys! Gladiator sounds a lot like Pirates of the Caribbean. Pearl Harbor was fantastic! The music fits perfectly with the movie, very sad. The ring, there’s a movie that was terrible. I remember when they made Scary Movie and made fun of the ring lady coming out of the t.v and getting stuck. My girlfriend just walked in listening to vines, grrr…. Did you know the Simpsons Movie soundtrack was played by Hans?… neither did I. Simpsons doesn’t seem to fit his style to me. Blackhawks just won! A good game 4-0, wish i had been there to watch. Oops, out of of time! Hope you enjoy the music like i did.

Ben’s Bitter Blog

Before this class I never blogged or ever cared, that is until I stumbled upon a Ben’s Bitter Blog. The title caught my attention being different from the typical dull blogger. Reading into his posts I soon followed. The blog while being bitter in a sense, is intentional to make people laugh. Each post is bound to make the reader chuckle in some way.

Take a moment and read into a few posts if you’d like, maybe even follow it if it’s your style of humor. The key when reading is understanding sarcasm. For example…

“I hear Halloween is coming up.  Not sure how since Halloween stores have only been open since early August, and Halloween themed candy has only been on sale since July.  I love how the holidays recently have taken a step back to give us a little relief to do other things like mock the weatherman for predicting that it would rain in Seattle or that it would be sunny in Arizona.  I wonder how bitter it would be to be a weatherman, going to school for years to study weather patterns and high and low pressure hurricane clouds and to get scooped by me going outside to tell you what the weather is going to be like for the next 5 minutes.”

Not all of the blog is writing either. Ben incorporates funny images and gifs and dedicates them to segments like Slideday Friday. The Slideday Friday gifs will show a funny caption relating to his blog. One shows a lady getting her suv towed onto a tow  truck but instead of paying she hops in her vehicle and pulls the truck along. The caption saying “…couldn’t be late for Slideday Friday, no matter the cost…of towing a tow truck.”

The purpose of Ben’s Bitter Blog to put simply, is to be incredibly sarcastic and funny.
